Another Hitchens homerun

Once again Christopher Hitchens shows that you don't have to agree with President Bush on much to get what is going on with the War on Terror.

A great piece on why Zarqawi’s death matters, by Christopher Hitchens, concluding with this astute observation:

The Hitchman
The Hitchman
If we had withdrawn from Iraq already, as the “peace” movement has been demanding, then one of the most revolting criminals of all time would have been able to claim that he forced us to do it. That would have catapulted Iraq into Stone Age collapse and instated a psychopathic killer as the greatest Muslim soldier since Saladin. As it is, the man is ignominiously dead and his dirty connections a lot closer to being fully exposed. This seems like a good day’s work to me.

The Federal Court says Ottawa  can't deny the son of an Egyptian-born terrorist a Canadian passport because of national security concerns.

The court has ruled that the federal government was wrong to deny Abdurahman Khadr's application two years ago.

That's because new anti-terror provisions didn't legally exist when the self-proclaimed black sheep of the family made his application in 2004.

Lawyers argued the case in December.

Khadr returned to Canada two years after being arrested as a presumed member of al-Qaida in November 2001.

He was later transferred to Guantanamo Bay and deported to Afghanistan.

His brothers Abdullah and Omar have been charged with terrorist activities.

History of the speech or debate clause

This link will lead to an explanation of the history of the speech or debate clause. This is the law that is protecting William Jefferson right now and the reason all of these creeps are shaking in their boots at the thought of their offices being searched.

Gonzales Said He Would Quit in Raid Dispute

WASHINGTON, May 26 — Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, the F.B.I. director, Robert S. Mueller III, and senior officials and career prosecutors at the Justice Department told associates this week that they were prepared to quit if the White House directed them to relinquish evidence seized in a bitterly disputed search of a House member's office, government officials said Friday.

Mr. Gonzales was joined in raising the possibility of resignation by the deputy attorney general, Paul J. McNulty, the officials said. Mr. Gonzales and Mr. McNulty told associates that they had an obligation to protect evidence in a criminal case and would be unwilling to carry out any White House order to return the material to Congress

Russians Investigating a journalist for publishing an article mocking Puttin

Prosecutors are investigating a journalist for publishing an article mocking President Vladimir Putin over his call to pay Russian women to have more children, an official said Wednesday.

The article was published by Vladimir Rakhmankov, editor of the online newspaper Kursiv in the central city of Ivanovo, said Andrei Galchenko of the regional prosecutor's office.

The piece poked fun at Putin's recent state of the nation address that called for economic incentives to boost the country's plummeting birth rate. Russian media reported that the publication suggested that animals at a local zoo increased their mating, heeding Putin's call.

Rakhmankov could not be reached for comment Wednesday. His article could not be seen, because the Web site has been shut down.

Galchenko said the investigation was launched because the article "contained phrases of an insulting nature aimed at the president."

If convicted of insulting a representative of the authorities, Rakhmankov faces up to 12 months of corrective labor or a fine, Galchenko said.

Ok this one is for the Dixie Chicks and anybody else that swears they are being censored by a vast right wing conspiracy.   Since you don’t seem to know what censorship is then here you go. This is government censorship. They made fun of the President of Russia and now their website is no more and they may get “12 months of corrective labor” that is the a Ruski code word for a Gulag girls.

See when people will not play your records on the radio because they get complaints all day or your old fans will not buy your records because they don’t like you anymore,  that is what we call choice. I know you think “Choice” and to you that means killing your baby but that is also has other meanings. But on second thought it does mean an abortion. In this case you made the choice and it killed your career.

How do the French say it? Cest la vie.

So this is the bottom line in this country you can make fun of the president call him Hitler and stupid, drawing him as a chimp or some other animal or lower form of life and it is all ok but if you are an artist that is dependent on public approval then you might want to put your money before you need to speak truth to power because the truth is no body owes you anything and in fact it is your fans that you owe every thing too.  Not that I am a superstar like you but some common business sense might benefit you and the poor schleps that are dependent on you for income. You know the other people behind the scenes. At the rate you are going you are going to wind up owing the record company for your tour and from what I understand your old deal made you no money and this record was the one where you were supposed to start making money for yourselves.
